SCI-TECH WORKSHOP: SIMPLY SPEAKERS

Come on feel the noise - and take it home with you when you create your very own audio speaker. Learn about the key elements that make a simple speaker work, and make your own with magnets, coils, and some everyday materials. Just how small is small? Join us to uncover the fascinating world of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Participate in hands-on activities that explore the properties, structures, materials and scale of this important field of science. Also, visit our nanotechnology exhibit to learn about its various applications in use today. All activities require general admission to the Lab and are available on a first come first served basis. No reservation required. Best suited for ages 7 and up.


MEN IN BLACK 3 ALIEN SLIME WORKSHOP

It’s an alien invasion and we’re about to get slimed! In anticipation of the release of Columbia Pictures’ action adventure comedy “Men in Black 3,” we’re rolling up our sleeves and getting messy making some icky, gooey alien slime. With a dose of science and some careful mixing, we’ll be making a special concoction of extraterrestrial proportions. Also, be sure to check out our cool display of real props from the “MIB 3” motion picture and don your black sunglasses and super soaker for a “special agent” photo opportunity. Children explore some of the basic functions of a computer and experiment with different sounds that they hear every day. The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition is an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. Students from local schools including Lehman (Queens) and the H.S. of Computers & Technology participating in this competition present their uniquely designed robots and discuss their development and mechanical design. Interact with these one-of-a-kind robots and learn about the strategies and challenges students face in their annual robotic competitions. No reservation required and space is limited.
